“Time heals all wounds.”
That would be a lie from the enemy.
Time heals nothing. Ask anyone who has been through a horrific event in his or her life.
Did 20 years heal the scars of a young woman who had an abortion?
Did a few months heal the pain felt when a young boy watched his parents get divorced?
Did growing up, getting married and having children of her own make a 40 year old mother forget the abuse she suffered from her alcoholic father?
They would all say, “No.”
Time doesn’t heal your mind or your soul. Time gives us distance from the problem and even fills our heads and hearts with other issues to distract us, make us forget for awhile. But right underneath the surface of our emotions lies the hurt and the wounds, always on the verge of exploding back into our lives when we least expect them.
Some things you just can’t forget. Some things you truly need to be freed from. And time isn’t alive, time didn’t hang on a cross for you. Time didn’t sacrifice his son for you or offer you a fresh start every day.
True healing comes only from a relationship with Jesus. For when you know Him as your friend, you can humbly come to Him with your problems, your mess-ups, your issues. You can ask Him for forgiveness which He FREELY gives and you can finally, once and for all, be freed from your wounds.
To heal, you need to receive forgiveness for what you have done wrong. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger abounding in love… He does not treat us as as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:8-12)
And you also need to forgive the ones who have hurt you. “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.” (Matthew 6:12)
You’ll need Jesus by your side to do both. Time doesn’t heal all wounds.
