If you follow SEC football at all you know who Paul Finebaum is. And if you know who Paul Finebaum is, you know who Phyllis from Mulga is. And if you don’t know who Phyllis from Mulga is, do some research on the Paul Finebaum Show and Phyllis from Mulga. You won’t be disappointed.
I don’t watch or listen to Finebaum much – I mean yes, I’m a little obsessed with SEC football but I do try to live a normal life on days Sunday – Thursday during the fall. But Monday I was at home folding a MOUNTAIN of laundry and was lucky enough to hear Phyllis from Mulga call in the Finebaum show.
And she didn’t disappoint.
She is by far one of the biggest Alabama fans on this planet (or any other planet). But Phyllis isn’t just a rabid Alabama fan, she’s and ANGRY rabid Alabama fan. (To be fair, every team has a “Phyllis Fan.” Phyllis just happens to be a well-known crazed fan because she calls into the Paul Finebaum show every single day.)
Part of me thinks she’s not really this irate, not really this angry.
But I grew up in Alabama and still live in this state, so I know she really is this irate, really is this angry.
Yesterday she went on a rant about how the Nick Saban dynasty was NOT over at Alabama after their loss to Ole Miss on Saturday. And then I got tickled thinking if she were to get that fired up about Jesus. It would sound something like “I’LL TELL YOU WHAT, PAUL. THE JESUS DYNESTY IS NOT OVER, NOT EVEN CLOSE. HE’S THE BEST SAVIOR OF ALL TIME AND AIN’T NOBODY BETTER. DON’T YOU EVER SAY JESUS AIN’T THE BEST BECAUSE HE IS AND ALL YOU NONBELIEVERS CAN JUST KISS MY REAR END! YOU HEAR ME PAUL???”
Now I’m not suggesting we all go around like Phyllis from Mulga screeching like a wild chimpanzee, but I do think we Christians could stand up and be more passionate than we are at times – especially when we hear others degrading Jesus within earshot or find out about Christians getting attacked for their beliefs.
“Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” (1 Chronicles 16:23-24)
Ooooohhh, Phyllis from Mulga – you never disappoint. Let’s make sure when given the opportunity we don’t disappoint either.
